It’s important to know that your business information systems are secure both inside and out. But often the testing and visibility of this is, at best, sporadic.
Many organisations are required to provide a Penetration Test annually in order to tick the auditors box to show that they have gone through the process. Much like an MOT certificate, it shows that, at the point of inspection, your system passed the tests. What it doesn’t do is to monitor the wear and tear of the component parts of the IT systems, the impacts of patches, of new applications, of changes to configurations, of new equipment coming into service and old being retired. Like running a car you need to change the oil, check the tyres, check the brakes and generally assess the road worthiness of the vehicle on a regular basis, not just at the MOT.
